Obituary

Michael Anthony Martinez of San Antonio Texas passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, February 9 th at the age of 60 in San Antonio, Texas.

Michael was born on July 31, 1961 to Angelita Prado and Rudolpho Martinez in San Antonio, Texas.  He began a successful career at the San Antonio Water system as a welder August 2, 1993.  During his 29 years of service at SAWS he received many awards and accolades and held various jobs within the company including unique gate repairs and construction on infrastructure throughout the city of San Antonio.  He also acquired two 9 year CWI certifications throughout his career.  He worked for multiple welding companies on his personal time including Knowles Welding & Machining, Southwest Welding & Machining, amongst many others.

Michael was a hard and dedicated worker who was loved and well respected by his many SAWS colleagues and peers.  He had an easy going and playful personality, always cracking jokes and making his friends and family laugh.

Michael loved the outdoors and participated in numerous sports, including football, track and field, softball, and bowling.  He loved fishing with his friends and family and playing golf with his brother.  He loved kayaking and vacationing with his wife.  He also loved spending quality time with his children and grandchildren, teaching them bike riding and fishing.  He loved to barbeque and watch sports, especially Sunday night football, with his German Shepherd Jagger by his side.  Our hearts are heavy with his unexpected loss but his memory will live on in our thoughts forever. We will celebrate who he was, what he meant to us, and the great impact he had on all of our lives. Each person that crossed his path has a special story of him to cherish and smile about.

He is survived by his wife, Irma Martinez; daughters: Angela Martinez (Justin Cipriano), Michelle Martinez (Angel Terrazas); step-son, Christopher Guerra; step-daughter, Melissa Guerra; 3 grandchildren: Christopher Presley Guerra, Jaxon Cipriano, and Amelia Terrazas; brother, Rudy Martinez and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.  Michael was proceeded in death by his aunt, Isabel Lopez and sister, Diana Martinez
