Obituary

Michael A. De Leon, 45, went to be with our Lord on March 21, 2022, while he was surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 14, 1977, in San Antonio, Texas. He was the youngest of six children born to Antonio and Christine De Leon . Michael graduated from Fox Tech High School and studied Journalism and Mass com munication at San Antonio College, where he got his first start working for The Ranger. He also worked as an assistant at Travis ES and Hernandez MS in San Marcos Texas, La Prensa, The Daily Record, MVN, Texas HS Football, Lineups, Texas Redzone Report, and Draft Media. Most notably Michael founded and managed ProjectSpurs.com and TheProjectSpursNetwork.

Michael loved sports and he was a die-hard Spurs fan. He was proud of the fact that The Spurs were all "good guys with good hearts." He frequently commented that these guys were classy and had their heads in the right place. He loved collecting cameras, pens, and baseball cards. He loved trying new restaurants and he loved rooting for the underdog. That's just who he was. More than anything else, he loved God and he loved his family. Family was everything to Mike. That is why he admired the Spurs so deeply- they operated and supported each other like a family. He had 4 nieces, Isabella, Gabby, Annette, and Amanda and 5 nephews, Adam, Jacob, Antonio, Christian, and Luke- whom he loved with all his soul. They were his pride and joy. Everyone who knew Michael knew that he was an extremely kind, supportive, encouraging and a peaceful person.

Michael was preceded in death by his father, Antonio G. De Leon. He is survived by his mother, Christine De Leon and partner Richard, siblings, Anthony De Leon, Belinda De Luna and husband, Paul, Steven De Leon, Frank C. De Leon, Jacob De Leon, and numerous cousins, and friends.

He is also survived by numerous colleagues and friends in journalism and sports podcasters. Michael was influential and mentored many people who needed their first shot as journalists. They created a community that honored what Michael envisioned.

Michael was a member of the La Vernia United Methodist Church and active in Tech Ministry which assisted in streaming services during the pandemic so parishioners who were unable to attend could still be part of service. He was also a member of the United Methodist Men's group which empowers men to take an active role as spiritual leaders in their church, home, and community.
