Obituary

On January 7, 2022, our sweet mother, Maxine Nell Goodman Bordelon, died peacefully in her sleep just short of her 92nd birthday.

She is survived by her 8 children, Mary Nell Doan (Dale), Betty Jo Bordelon (Mark), Lucy Ann Bordelon Wilson (Gary), Jim Bordelon (Tim), Bill Bordelon (Trish), Max Bordelon (Jean), Jenny Lynn Murray (Donny), Amy Kay Kirk (Jerry), 13 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, Nell and Max Goodman, her beloved sister Jennita Goodman Poston, sweet grandson Tommy (Mary Nell's son), and the love of her life and soulmate, Thomas Charles Bordelon.

A 5th generation Texan, Maxine was born January 16, 1930, on her parents 3rd wedding anniversary, in San Antonio Texas. When she was 18 months old, her father died. She often said that she was so looking forward to meeting him in the next life.

She grew up in San Antonio and on June 18, 1949, married Thomas "Tommy" Bordelon.  Having a large family was the joy of their lives. In 1994, Tommy passed, and it was at this time that she moved to Austin to be closer to children and grandchildren. In 2001, she moved to Boerne, TX, when Max and Jean purchased a lovely Victorian home for her. There she remained under the primary care of Max, Jean, and Jaclyn Bordelon until her passing.

Maxine was a petite person in stature, measuring only 4'11" at her fullest height, but she had an immense love of children, family, and animals (she always wanted a pet monkey). She was an avid gardener and transformed her yards into beautiful blooming gardens. This was a love that she passed on to all her 8 children.

Being an avid reader, blessed with a keen wit and a natural storyteller, she had aspirations of writing children's books but having such a large family took up most of her time, so instead, her children and grandchildren were the lucky recipients of her stories.

Sadly, Maxine was diagnosed as having Alzheimer's in 2017.  Each day the true Maxine slipped further away, until finally at the time of her death we are blessed to believe she has found peace from her disease and is again her true self surrounded by her husband, sister, parents, and grandson Tommy along with her many family pets, who also wait for us on the other side.
