Maurice Sylvan Abadie, Jr., (B.C.) the second of four children born to Helen Wilson and Maurice Sylvan Abadie, Sr. on November 14, 1940 entered eternal life on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at the age of 75.

Maurice was educated by the School Sisters of Notre Dame and the Redemptorist Fathers. He lived his life in service to the poor in St. Louis, Missouri and in San Antonio, Texas as a community organizer and social worker at the Presa Community Center, Centro Del Barrio and Kenwood Community Center.

Maurice was a Catholic Educator, Principal, School President and Development Director at St. Gerard Catholic High School for 39 years. He was an active member of St. Gerard Parish serving on the Parish Council, the Visioning Team, Choir, Adult Faith Formation and the Men's ACTS Community. As an advocate for social justice, he received the Edgar Alan Poe Community Relations Award in 1989, the YMCA Crime Fighter of the Year Award in 1990 and the Catholic Educators Award in 1995.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Bonnie Lemelle Abadie; sisters: Jeannemarie Spitzfaden and her husband, Thomas and Yvonne Abadie; brother, Rene Abadie and his wife Cecilia; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

FUNERAL SERVICES

Visitation will be held on Monday from 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. at The Angelus Chapel and then again beginning at 5:30 P.M. at St. Gerard's Catholic Church with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 P.M. Funeral Mass will be offered Tuesday at 10:00 A.M. at St. Gerard's Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at San Fernando Archdiocesan Cemetery No.2.
