Obituary

Our beloved father Matias (Matt) Ramos, Jr. entered heavenly peace on Sunday, July 02, 2023. He was 91 years old.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother Matias and Herminia Ramos. By his wife beloved wife of 62 years, Rachael, his sons Adrian and Stefen, his two granddaughters Samantha and Micaela Ramos, and his brother Daniel Ramos.

Matt was born on December 7, 1931, in San Antonio, Texas. In 1949 he graduated from Fox Tech High School and then entered the United States Navy, serving during the Korean War. Upon returning home, he started his civil service career at Kelly Air Force Base and then began studying physics at St. Mary's University, finally graduating in 1964. He continued working for San Antonio Air Logistics Command at Kelly until his retirement in 1986.

Matt was an avid golfer who spent many a weekend on the links and occasionally winning a tournament or two.  His commitment to his Catholic faith was unwavering. He administered the Eucharist to homebound parishioners and lead the Adoration on Wednesday evenings. He would also say the rosary each day at 3:00 p.m.  He always told his children that there wasn't anything they couldn't do and encouraged them to find their path in life. He was charming and had a wicked sense of humor which endeared him to everyone who met him.

He is survived by his daughters: Alicia Craig (Michael), Regina Currie (Scott), and Ruth Altenburger (Michael); daughter-in-law, Denise Ramos; his sisters: Tillie Ransom, Ernestine Roser, and Elia Robles (Zaragoza) along with his grandchildren: Amy Craig-Jaramillo (Joel), Kevin Craig, Zachary Ramos, Travis Altenburger, Josh Currie, Nick Currie, Rebekah Altenburger, John David Ramos, and Bryan Ramos, great-grandchildren: Shane, Samuel, Donovan, Elianna, and Caleb Craig and Julian Jaramillo along with numerous nieces and nephews.
