Mary Jo Quinn
September 12, 1944 – June 8, 2026
Mary Jo Quinn, a lifelong resident of San Antonio, was born on September 12, 1944. She passed peacefully into the arms of our Lord on June 8, 2026.
Mary Jo dedicated her life to faith, service, education, and the advancement of healthcare in her community. She attended Ursuline Academy before continuing her education at the University of the Incarnate Word, then known as Incarnate Word College. In 1966, she started her professional journey with the Bexar County Hospital District and went on to serve in numerous healthcare leadership roles throughout Texas, Kentucky, and Ireland. Her work included positions with hospitals, healthcare plans, and organizations focused on credentialing, compliance, and quality healthcare services. Throughout her career, she earned the respect and admiration of colleagues for her integrity, dedication, and commitment to excellence.
Guided by a deep faith and a desire to serve others, Mary Jo left her professional career for a time to answer a higher calling. As a missionary with the Presentation Sisters of the Blessed Virgin Mary, she spent two years in Zambia, Africa, teaching and reading English to children and helping establish a special-needs classroom for children who had never had the opportunity to attend school.
Upon returning to San Antonio, Mary Jo served as Director of Volunteers for Sisters Care, a personal care agency operated by the Sisters of the Incarnate Word. In 2005, she returned to BCVI as Director, where she continued to serve with distinction until her retirement after more than twenty years of dedicated service.
Mary Jo will be remembered for her unwavering faith, compassionate heart, generous spirit, and tireless commitment to helping others. In her retirement she kept busy volunteering with many organizations, The Village at Incarnate Word; The Oblate Associates, The Harp & Shamrock Society, the Irish Cultural Society, the special needs program at St. Mark the Evangelist and was President of the Board for the Presentation Ministry Center – too many to name. She touched countless lives through her professional accomplishments, missionary work, volunteer service, and personal friendships. Those who knew her will remember her kindness, wisdom, and genuine care for everyone she met.
She leaves behind a legacy of service, faith, and love that will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She was preceded in death by her loving mother, Josephine Quinn, and she is survived by her family in Ireland, The Neilans (Clora, Susan,, Anna, Paul, Francis, Ena Mar) Quinns, Kinvara (Pascal, James, Cathy, Joe) Brews (Francis, Gerita, Johnny, Rose) Quinns, Gort (Mary, Pauline, Noreen, Patrick and Rena) Quinns, Manchester (Bernadette and Kevin). Many dear friends who feel her loss.
