Maria (Cuca) Del Refugio Quiroga de Jimenez was born in Dallas, TX on August 15, 1931 to Francisco Quiroga and Consuelo Gonzales Vega and went to be with the Lord on June 4, 2019, at the age of 87. Cuca lived a life of service to others and was always a pillar of strength for her family and community. She was a devout servant of the Lord and lived her life with the utmost grace and humility.
Cuca grew up in Dallas and was raised very close to her grandmother who inspired her lifelong devotion to the Catholic Church. She attended St. Ann's Catholic School which is where she met Raul Jimenez, Sr., who later became her husband and the love of her life. She lived a life of service and at an early age, and along with her sister, studied Cosmetology and became a hairdresser to support her family.
In 1953, Mary and Raul married and moved to San Antonio to make their home where they would raise their two children, Raul Jr. and Patricia. Together they started a small chorizo business and through incredible sacrifice built a successful Mexican Food products company consisting of two manufacturing plants and three restaurants. Although immensely successful, they remained grounded in their values. Their altruistic spirit of giving would evolve into a lasting legacy.
The Raul Jimenez Thanksgiving Dinner was started from their charitable nature and desire to give back to the community and honor senior citizens. As the matriarch of the Jimenez Dinner, Mary played an integral role from its inception, and while she chose not to be in the spotlight, her generous spirit was felt by all.
Later in life, she enjoyed spending time with her daughter and family, going to the movies, watching sporting events and attending church at St. Brigid Catholic Church, where she was a devoted parishioner. Mary will forever be remembered for her servant's heart, devotion to her faith and family, her poise and infectious smile. She was a beautiful soul and lived a life of intention and purpose. Mary was an inspiration to all who she met.
Together with Raul, Mary's legacy and spirit will live on through her family and The Thanksgiving Dinner. She filled our lives with happiness, generosity, and an inexplicable sense of togetherness. Her family values permeated the community, the city, the Thanksgiving table, and so much more. She can't be replaced, but her spirit will undoubtedly live on. Her heart of service will live through her family and through every volunteer and person who walks through the door every Thanksgiving. We're so grateful to have had her for as long as we did. There is no doubt that she left this world a better place than she found it.
Mary was immensely appreciative of the countless sponsors, committee members, and volunteers who help carry on the unique San Antonio Thanksgiving tradition.
She is preceded in death by her parents Francisco and Consuelo; beloved husband, Raul Jimenez, Sr.; son, Raul Jimenez, Jr.; great granddaughter, Aleena Jimenez; siblings, Jesse Quiroga and Martha York.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Jimenez; grandchildren, Jessica Jimenez, Raul Jimenez, III and Arthur Jimenez; great grandchildren, Ava Jimenez, Noah and Sienna Jaimez.
The Jimenez Family would like to thank Dr. Robert N. Schnitzler for his love and compassion during the last days of her life. Mary was also incredibly grateful for his lifelong friendship and support of the Raul Jimenez Thanksgiving Dinner. We would also like to thank the 7 th floor MICU medical team at the Methodist Hospital for their outstanding care and kindness during the last phase in her life.
