Obituary

Mary Elizabeth Henning was born February 4, 1925, in Yankton, SD to Clarence and Margaret Courtney. Mary was called home to be with our Lord on January 31, 2016, and reunited with her husband Donald, the love of her life.

Mary was raised on Sunshine Farm and later worked for the government at the Pentagon and in Hawaii where she met the love of her life, Donald. They traveled and were stationed at many Air Force bases while raising 6 children. She moved to San Antonio in 1970 and lived at The Village at Incarnate Word since 2006. She was an excellent seamstress, cook, gardener, an avid reader with a huge thirst for knowledge, and proud of her Irish heritage. She raised 3 Eagle Scouts, cheered her children at their sports events, and rooted for the Spurs and Texas A&M. She volunteered wherever she lived, especially with the Altar Society, Assumption Seminary, and St Luke's Bereavement Committees. Grammy was a beacon of light for her family and touched many lives through her devout faith.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, brother, infant sister, and brothers-in-law. Mary is survived by her 6 children: Patricia Kelly (Patrick); Michael Henning (Anne); Father Phillip Henning; Mary Catherine Henning; Robert Henning (Claudia); and Caroline Mitchell (Scott). Mary was blessed with 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren and 1 more on the way. She is also survived by her sisters: Marge Lubbers, Angela McGillick, and Sister Kathleen Courtney and numerous nephews and nieces.
