Obituary

Mary "Chikena" Hernandez Garcia passed away on Wednesday, June 15th after a courageous 14-month battle with Lung Cancer. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandma, the matriarch of her family. Mary was a strong woman and a successful business owner who was loved by her faithful customers.

She is survived by her husband, Robert "Bobby" Garcia; her four children, Sandra Lozano Pesina and husband Larry, Johnny Lozano and wife Rosie, Rose Lozano Farias and husband Danny, Lucy Lozano-Gomez, RN BSN and husband Mark. She had six grandchildren: Joseph, Nicholas, Amanda, Daniel, Mark and Emersyn. She is also survived by numerous other extended family members.

Mary owned and managed, Mary and Bobby's corner, a local neighborhood bar where she catered to a diverse clientele of loyal customers who patronized her establishment frequently. She had a quick wit and a sharp tongue that added to her one of a kind charm. Family and friends sought her advise and help on many occasions.

Her proudest accomplishment was her children and grandchildren. She raised her children who all became hardworking productive citizens that included, a local business owner, a hard working HEB employee, a Bexar County Deputy Sheriff and a Registered Nurse. She taught her children to always be strong. Mary was their role model and best friend. During her last days and while receiving hospice services her children had the privilege of taking care of their mother around the clock until she was called to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Both her and her husband enjoyed each others company. They liked going to casinos and frequently were seen eating at local restaurants in the neighborhood. Bobby was at her side during the numerous doctors appointments and procedures and he supported her during her battle with Cancer. He encouraged her to keep fighting and he stood by her. Her children are very thankful to him for all his love, kindness, patience and strength that he showed during her fight.

The family would also like to thank her physicians, Dr. Syed Raza, Dr. Jamie Esquivel, Mirena Vanderslice, NP and the nurses from Complete Care Home Health and Hospice, Betty, Linda, Gloria and her nursing assistant, Donna, all of them professional, compassionate and caring while they provided excellent care.

We will miss her greatly and although we are heartbroken we take comfort knowing she is with our Lord Jesus Christ. We love you Mom!
