Mrs. Mary Ann Dionne passed away on July 18, 2023, from complications of systemic sclerosis, a rare autoimmune disease she battled for more than thirty years.
Born October 15, 1937, in Jeannette, PA, her creative spirit and determination were evident early, when she taught herself to sew in third grade. She would later design both the fabric and dress for her portfolio that won her a full scholarship to Pratt Institute in NY, where she studied fashion design and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1959. She created garment patterns for JC Penney, taught briefly at Marymount College, and sewed for family and friends. After the end of her first marriage in 1974, she started her own business in San Antonio under the label "Mary Ann Hart," her maiden name. The line of appliquéd girls' dresses was inspired by the many outfits she created for her two daughters.
Mary Ann was a force for good and a woman of deep faith. She was married to Dr. Douglas P. Dionne, a retired lieutenant colonel, for almost 45 years. She loved roses and the Virgin Mary. A devout Catholic, Mary Ann was a member of the Knights and Dames of the Holy Sepulchre. She was well known for her gifts of prayerful intercession and devotion to the rosary.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mary Hart and is survived by siblings, Joseph Hart and Eileen Fuchs; her husband, Douglas; her daughters, Maureen and Deirdre O'Halloran; her grandchildren, Miquela and Loren De León and Aidan, Liam, and Owen Kaplan; and great-grandson, Levon De León.
