Obituary

Maria G. Reyes Whorton, age 68, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on April 2, 2022.  She was born to the late Guadalupe and Oralia Reyes on December 11, 1953, in San Antonio, TX.

She is survived by her two children, Lee A. Lozano-Osier and Marissa V. Gonzales, grandson Nathaniel Ramos, brother Ray Olivo, sisters Maria Ramirez and Rachel Bikle, and 4 nieces who loved and admired her.

Maria spent her teen youth during the 60's, a historic time when civil rights were the headline of the day. She was passionate that men and women of all races be treated equally, as well as a woman's right to choose and a fierce advocate for the LGBTQ community, often assisting those in these communities with love, support, and devotion.

She lived with the following scripture emanating from her heart:

"Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? When did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? When did we see you ill or in prison, and visit you?'

And the king will say to them in reply, 'Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me."

Maria's greatest love, along with 9 dogs and 2 cats was her family.   If you were to go into battle, she was the one you wanted by your side, never afraid to fight for what was right and never scared to tell the truth.

If you'd like to honor Maria, please donate to your local humane society in her name.

Maria's wishes are to spend eternity among the beaches and gardens of yellow rose bushes and Texas Bluebonnets.  Her ashes will be spread in Oahu, Hawaii and in backyards of family gardens in San Antonio, TX.
