Obituary

Mrs. Maria Cristina Pozos Parra passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 2020 at the age of 93.  Maria was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She worked for several years in civil service at Randolph AFB during and after WWII. It was during her time at Randolph that she met her beloved husband Ambrosio Parra Sr. Maria and Ambrosio would go on to share 50 plus magnificent years of marriage and raise 5 wonderful children. Maria enjoyed volunteering as a Girl Scout leader and camper, a Cub Scout den mother, and was an avid Boy Scout supporter. As her children grew up and entered Little Flower School, Maria regularly took on the position of Room Mother and was recognized for all her efforts in a Mother of the Year awards ceremony. Never one to pass up an opportunity to be of service, Maria regularly volunteered her time and resources at Church festivals and Bazaars, and was a fixture at the Fish Pond booth. Maria was also a woman strong in faith. Her dedication to the Shrine could be seen in the many ways that she chose to be of service to her church. Maria was one of the first members of wives Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus and also cleaned and sewed with the Alter Society. She joined the Brown Scapular and in lay ministry as a Lector for both English and Spanish services, was a Eucharistic minister during Mass and also took Holy Communion to those unable to leave their homes due to illness.

In her spare time Maria loved to travel with her Husband Ambrosio Sr. (Blimp) (2002). One of their favorite places to visit was Las Vegas and they frequently drove from San Antonio to Las Vegas with their neighbors the Guardiolas. Maria also accompanied her husband to Ship Reunions of the USS Suwannee (CVE,27) which took them from Hawaii to Seattle to St. Louis and many other places across the United States. She loved to play Bunco with a club called the Bunco Chicks, reading as often as possible, sewing, doing puzzles, playing the card game Go Fish! and playing Loteria. Her loss is felt by every life that she touched and she will be greatly missed.

Maria was preceded in death by:  Her husband Ambrosio Parra Sr (2002)., son, John Parra(1952), and 14 bothers and sisters.  She is survived by her children: Magdalena Parra Valdez (Daniel), Cecilia Parra Alva (Richardo), Ambrosio Parra (Lisa), Jaime T.
