Obituary

Maria Socorro Ortiz passed away at the age of 95 on Friday, August 21, 2026.  Socorro was preceded in death by her parents, Magdaleno and Maria Luisa Ibarra, and her beloved husband, Louis Z. Ortiz.

Socorro is survived by her children, Louis A. Ortiz (Rose) and Raymond Ortiz; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. "Nana" as she was affectionately called was proud of her sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and a great-great-granddaughter.

Socorro graduated from Fox Tech High School. Socorro retired from Joske's with 25+ years in the business office. Socorro was highly skilled as an executive management assistant and could do complex math problems in her head. Louis, her dear husband and she were always together. She was devoted to her church, St Martin & Rose Catholic and had many dear friends from church. They were good friends with Father Gus. They were always helpful in church projects and she and Louis did many carpentry works for their church. Their favorite road trip was always to Rockport, Tx.

Socorro was always helpful and of service to everyone.  They picked up all the grandchildren and great-grandchildren from school and cared for each one at certain points of their lives. Making sure each one had a raspa or a treat coming home.

Marisol held a very special place in Nana's heart and this was reciprocated as Marisol cared for her grandparents as she became an adult. Marisol lovingly took them prepared meals, took them to doctor visits and shopping, and was always helpful. Marisol cared for them during the stressful covid epidemic.

Nana loved and was proud of all her grandchildren and always carried pictures to show her friends. Nana kept school projects and crafts and homemade cards they made hanging on the walls. Nana had 11 great-grandchildren.  Her refrigerator door was covered in her grandchildren's pictures. Nana referred to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as the "light of her life."  Joel was the oldest great-grandson and she stated that phrase every time she saw him.  Nana loved every single grandchild so much and took so many pictures of each one at each holiday season.

Socorro loved her nieces and nephews and always took special care to be helpful to each family member. Nana was thoughtful and each gift was a special presentation carefully wrapped with love.  Socorro wanted all visitors to have refreshments when they visited.  Each person who knew her can tell a story of a kindness Socorro extended to them and speak fondly of her.  Folks can tell many kind stories of Nana and Grandpa. They were always together.  Kindness who extended to so many people.  It is our hope that each story remain an example of the love Nana had for her family.  Their mission in life was to be helpful, have a service attitude and love people.  Socorro was a beautiful woman physically and spiritually.

Socorro had a good life for 95 years and was very much loved and valued by her family and friends. Nana had a life well lived.  We will all miss her dearly and carry her love in our hearts. "Keep in touch."
