Obituary

Maria F. Wehage Hoyer, was born January 24, 1914, to August Wehage and Maria Schwegmann in Langwege, county of Oldenburg, Germany.  In October, 1950, she married Joseph Hoyer.  She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and 9 siblings.  "Mia" enjoyed 50 years of membership in both Hermann Sons and Beethoven Damenchor.

Mia loved growing up on her parents' large farm in Northern Germany.  She studied cooking, tailoring, and business before she entered nursing school, which became her lifetime career.  Upon arrival in San Antonio in 1954 she found a nursing position at Santa Rosa, then later retired from the Nix Hospital as a surgical nurse.

Although she and Joseph had no children, she leaves behind numerous nephews, nieces and cousins, both in Germany and Texas.  Mia enjoyed sharing "spellbinding" stories from her 102 years of a life well lived.
