Manuela "Mamie" Garza, age 95, of San Antonio entered into eternal life with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 5, 2016. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jenaro Garza, Sr.; daughters, Mary Frances Garza and Celia Cook; grandson, William Hardy Cook; great-grandsons, Roger P. Hadley and Michael A. Garza; and brothers, Edmundo Porras and Robert Porras. Mamie is survived by her other beloved children: sons, Jenaro, Jr. "Jerry" (Susie), Richard (Rose), Anthony, and daughter, Delia Chavol (Pete); grandchildren: Robert Hadley, Sr. (Nancy), Monica Arriaga (Bill), Suzanne Oliver, Mary Topperwein (Chad), Richard Garza, Jr. (Renita), Sarah Cook, Candice Chavol, Melissa Garza, Crystal Garza, Anthony "AJ" Garza (Tiffany), Daniel Garza, Roland Garza (Lani), and Brandon Garza; 15 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren. Mamie was a devoted wife and loving mother to her six children and loved being surrounded by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She was a devout Catholic her entire adult life, praying daily and reciting the rosary nightly, without fail. After the death of her husband in 1981, Mamie devoted her life to serving the community of St. Paul Catholic Church. For many, many years she served as a Sacristan, a Eucharistic Minister during Sunday masses, and a home-bound Eucharistic Minister for those unable to attend mass. She was also a long-time member of the Altar Society and Sewing Circle at St. Paul. It was during this time that Mamie personally selected the fabrics for the altar linens and made many of them by her own hand. She also personally cared for and laundered these linens, ensuring that the altar was impeccable and that all sacred vessels were perfectly placed prior to mass. Throughout her 40+ years of service to St. Paul Catholic Community, Mamie made many lasting friendships. She will be deeply missed by her family and those who loved her.
