Obituary

Dr. Manuel Pina Jr. was born on November 3rd, 1941 in San Antonio, Texas and died on February 5th, 2023 in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 81.  Proceeding him in death were his wife of 58 years Margaret Ann Pina; and parents Manuel S. Pina and Maria T. Pina.  He is survived by his children, Manuel Carlos Pina, Manufacturing Facility Engineer (and wife Cynthia), Maurice Jose Pina, High School Teacher and Coach (and wife Angela), Maria Pilar Pina, Psychotherapist and LCSW; grandchildren, Carlos Luis Pina (and wife Barbara), Jonathan Manuel Pina and Melissa Isabel Pina; sister Gloria Celestino; nephew Peter Pina (and wife Priscilla, son Matthew Pina) and many other loving family members.

Manuel received his Bachelors Degree in Mathematics from Texas A&M University, his Masters Degree in Mathematics from St. Mary's University and his Ph.D from the University of Texas at Austin in Operations Research, Statistics & Computer Methods.  He was a dedicated Research Analyst for the Air Force Department of Defense for over 30 years were he developed countless scientific studies and analysis, become a Senior Analyst and Division Chief supervising future analyst in the field, and received extensive awards in recognition of his excellence in the field.  After retiring he enjoyed teaching mathematics and statistics at local community colleges, sharing his love and gift in mathematics with future generations.

Manuel truly lived a life devoted to his family and would even ponder out loud how absolute and overwhelming his love of family felt to him. He was happiest engaging in endless family meals; spending treasured quality time with his growing family; mulling over mathematical analysis he could identify just about anywhere in his daily living and the world; and spending time with his wife of 58 years. If you were lucky, he would share his deepest feelings about his most cherished memories of traveling throughout Mexico and Europe with his family and meeting his wife at a school dance, just as his parents met at a dance gathering.

Manuel was a quiet, sentimental and devoted family man in every sense of the word. He led his family using very few words and instead using an endless modeling of his strong mighty patriarchal heart.
