Obituary

Madeleine Burkhalter Rhodes passed away unexpectedly in the early morning of July 24, 2023. She was 55 years old.

The youngest of six, Madeleine enjoyed the loving attention of her parents, Miller and Mayme Burkhalter, who predeceased her, as well as her brother, Miller Burkhalter lll. She is lovingly remembered by her devoted husband Eric Rhodes of 15 years, by her stepson Lief Eric Rhodes, mother-in-law Christie Fraley and Madeleine's siblings: Sarah Burkhalter, Annette Burkhalter, Elizabeth Burkhalter-Elliott, and Christopher Burkhalter. Also surviving "Aunt Madeleine" are her five nieces, nephew, and three great nephews who she loved very much.

A graduate of Robert E. Lee High School, where she was a member of the dance team, Madeleine was gregarious, talking with anyone who listened, and generous to anyone in need. Growing up, she enjoyed escaping on her bike and pedaling around the neighborhood to visit with friends. The Lamperts' ranch was a favored destination where she learned to ride dirt bikes. Madeleine also loved the beach where she vacationed over the years with family and friends. Port Aransas continued to be a favorite vacation destination.

As a life-long dog lover, Madeleine brought home every stray dog that she came across. Her most prized possession, in an extensive line of pets, was "Mr. Bouda."  Bouda quickly became a member of the family and Madeleine's pride and joy for many years.

Madeleine's constant companion has been her husband, Eric, whose love and devotion made her life complete. Her favorite food was anything they cooked together, and her favorite time of day was the evening when he came home from work.

Madeleine leaves us all with many shared, precious memories that touched our lives. We may be temporarily apart, but she will forever be in our hearts and prayers.
