Obituary

Lucille Agnes Aguirre Miller, affectionately known to many as Lucy or Lulu, of San Antonio, TX, went to be with our Lord and Savior on September 19, 2025 at the age of 83. Lucy's life was defined by her unwavering love for her family, her distinguished career as a civil servant with the U.S. Army, and her commitment to service both at home and in her community.

Lucy was born August 4, 1942 in San Antonio, Texas to Mauricio and Florence (Ontiveros) Aguirre. Lucy grew up on the west side of town and was the youngest in her graduating class from Fox Tech High School's Class of 1959 at age 16. She was active in the pep squad and color guard. After graduation, she was part of one of the first all women's softball leagues in the city of San Antonio. In 1963, Lucy married, and then lived in Hawaii, Virginia, Alaska and various places in Texas as a military spouse. Eventually, she returned to her hometown for good and worked for nearly 40 years as a budget analyst for the U.S. Army, handling millions of dollars for morale, welfare, and recreation (MWR). Upon her retirement, she continued to volunteer daily at the Wounded Warrior Center at Fort Sam Houston with injured service members and their families.

Lucy's legacy as a mother and grandmother is perhaps what she cherished most. She raised two children, both of whom followed their family's footsteps into military service, embodying the same principles of honor and sacrifice she instilled in them. Lucy's immense pride in her children's military service was evident by all who knew her, as she never missed an opportunity to brag. She was also a proud grandmother, doting on her grandchildren and ensuring they always felt loved and supported.

Throughout her life, Lucy loved traveling, often stopping at every Catholic Church she encountered. She loved going to the movies, playing bingo and penny slots, and watching crime shows. She loved to try new food, with her favorite being anything involving bread; she used to always say she could "eat bread all day, every day."

Lucy was preceded in death by her greatest loves, her grandmother, Luz Ontiveros, and her first born daughter, Debra Ann Miller, as well as her parents. Lucy is survived by her brother, John Alex Aguirre, and her two remaining children; her daughter, Patricia Marie (Miller) Austill (Randall Austill) currently residing in Yorktown, Virginia, and her son, William Derek Miller (Cynthia Carrillo) of San Antonio. Lucy was blessed with seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Her grandchildren include Lauren Micole Austill Parker (William Luke Parker), Derek Anthony Miller, Domonique Miller, Breanna Marie Austill Barnett (William Ross Barnett), Isabella Mari Austill, Gabriella Morgan Austill, and Debra Marie Miller. And her great grandchildren include Indiana Marie Barnett, Charlotte Marisa Barnett, Maxwell Isaac Parker, Jack Randall Barnett, Kamari Angelo Miller, and Nicolas Lennan Parker. She will also be remembered fondly by her many friends, colleagues, and extended family who were fortunate to know her.
