We are saddened to share the passing of our beloved, Lily P. Casillas, who left us peacefully on Wednesday, November 6th, 2024.
Lily was one of eight children born to parents Josefa and Jose Casillas on March 4, 1934.
She met the love of her life Ernesto Puente in high school, and their bond was unshakable until his untimely passing.
Lily had a unique gift for nurturing both people and plants. Her love of gardening brought beauty to every space she touched, with flowers blooming in harmony through all seasons. Her personal garden, lovingly tended alongside her sister Lupe, was a masterpiece of natural beauty. She worked in a plant nursery for for over 20 years. This passion led to an extraordinary opportunity working for Lady Bird Johnson at her personal home, a role she earned through sheer talent and word of mouth.
After her time working at the plant nursery, Lily devoted herself to a meaningful career in home healthcare. She worked tirelessly and lovingly till the very end.
Lily's devotion to her family was just as remarkable. She often stepped up as a caretaker for her sisters and brothers, embodying kindness and selflessness in all that she did.
Lily was preceded in death by her parents, Josefa and Jose Casillas; her fiance Ernesto Puente; her brother Frank P. Casillas; her sisters, Susan Lagunas; Mary, Lupe, Beatrice, Evangeline (Mita), and Sally Casillas; and her nephew Alex Lagunas.
She is survived by her brother, Joe P. Casillas, her nephews Frank Matthew Casillas; Arthur and wife Fela Lagunas; her nieces' Jennifer Casillas-Gutierrez, Judy Lagunas, Linda Henley, Alexis Lagunas, Lisa and husband John Valdez, Catherine and husband Michael Hernandez, and Denise and husband George Salazar; along with the many other great-nieces and great-nephews.
Her lifelong friends from her neighborhood, who were numerous, will also miss her dearly.
Lily's legacy of kindness, beauty and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
