Leona Ernestine Saucedo entered the gates of Heaven on Sunday, September 28, 2025. She was 77 years old. She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Fred Saucedo, her son Vincent Salvatore Mifsud III and his wife Tiffany Mifsud, and her three grandsons, Danny Mifsud, Vincent Darin Mifsud and Vincent Acosta.
She was born on April 26, 19148 in Long Branch, New Jersey. She grew up with horse racing in her family and frequently attended the events at Monmouth Park. Some of her family members were very successful jockeys.
She attended and graduated from Long Branch High School. While in high school she teamed up with her forever friend, Carol McGee and wowed the students with their renditions of Peter, Paul and Mary songs especially Stewball. That was Leona's favorite song.
She married and gave birth to her first son, Vincent Salvatore Mifsud III. She worked for Metropolitan Life for several years and then moved to Houston, Texas. After her divorce she moved to San Antonio, Texas where she married Fred Saucedo who has been her husband now for 41 years. They had another son named Anthony Frederick Saucedo. He died at the age of 33 on October 1, 2021.
Leona worked for SW Bell/AT&T for 26 years. She won several salesperson of the month awards and best salesperson of the year.
She loved to cook and bake. She made the best cannolis this side of Italy. Her hobbies included dancing, walking, fishing, crabbing and horseback riding and loved the beach at Port Aransas, Texas. She had a passion for horses. Her dream was to live in a log home on a ranch with goats, sheep, chickens and of course horses. She lived, LIFE!
She had an unconditional commitment to FAMILY. FAMILY WAS EVERYTHING TO HER.
Leona believed that everyday had a character. Some were good some were bad but the love and presence of God were in both. Regardless of life's obstacles hope, faith and trust in God's goodness never changed.
She was an active member of Blessed Sacrament parish for about forty-seven (47) years. She served as a Eucharistic minister for 34 years and always volunteered for special events involving the parish and school.
In closing, she finally lost her battle with Dementia after five years. She had a dream that burned in her heart, her spirit, her soul. Her dream was, THAT ALL ON THIS EARTH, BUT FOR A MOMENT, SOME WAY SOME HOW, MAY LIVE AS GOD INTENDED, PEACEFULLY AND TOGETHER .
God will be happy to welcome her in Heaven.
