SHANE as he like to be called passed away on Sunday, October 6, 2019 at the age of 63. He was born in Ft. Worth, Texas on February 15, 1956 to Gilbert Leon Rogers and Norma Jean Hedge Rogers. After his graduation from Roosevelt High School in 1974 he enlisted in the Army to serve his country. He was in the Second Armored Division (Hell on Wheels). He was stationed in Fort Poth, Louisiana, Fort Ord, California, Fort Hood, Texas and Grafenwohr, Germany. In 1979 Shane met Karen, his best friend, soul mate and the love of his life. Their journey thru life exemplified their unconditional love for each other.
Shane loved to travel with Karen and her parents. They traveled to Hawaii, Virgin Islands, Belgium and most of Europe and the different States. Shane never knew a stranger. He always had a welcoming smile on his face. Always ready to help anyone that needed it. Shane loved animals and rescued several dogs and cats. His love of animals extended to his ranch full of cattle. He found relaxation and joy at the ranch working the cattle, and putting out hay. He loved boating and fishing.
He was a long term resident of San Antonio, Texas having lived in the downtown area for many years. He was a faithful and devoted member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was an honorary member of the Amalgamated Transit Union Retiree Chapter 694. Shane faithfully attended the Belgium American Club of Texas meetings and events where he was an officer and previously served on the Board of Directors. Shane exemplified Faith, Hope, and Love. He met every new challenge with determination with an eye to detail. He had the biggest heart touching many lives with his generosity and loving kindness. His strength and devotion to those he loved is a gift that will remain with them forever. He was deeply loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Lynn Brown Rogers, mother, Norma Jean Hedge Rogers, brothers Ray Lee Rogers and Clyde Douglas Rogers and sister Glenda Gaylee Rogers and numerous nieces and nephews and friends.
