Obituary

Timothy Kelly Clare

September 13, 1945 – April 21, 2022

Timothy Kelly Clare, born in San Antonio, September 13, 1945 to Leland and Mary Nelson Clare, passed away on April 21, 2022 at Brooke Army Medical Center San Antonio, after a brief illness.

Kelly graduated from St. Anthony Grade School ('59) and Central Catholic High School ('63).  He attended college for two years before joining the U.S. Army in 1966.  He served in the 101 st Airborne Division and in the 173 rd Airborne Brigade during his two tours in Vietnam.

Upon separation from military service he travelled widely in the United States.  He later completed a paralegal degree program.  He was intellectually curious throughout his entire life, devouring as many books as he could lay hands on.

He was blessed with many loyal and wonderful friends, many from childhood days.  As an adolescent, he was an expert in horsemanship and in all things mechanical, and was a genuine devil-may-care individual.  Throughout his life, he was generous with his time and talent, particularly to those less fortunate, or those in distress, and he volunteered his time at the local Catholic Charities and Veterans organizations.  His passing is mourned by his family and his many friends who fondly remember his loyalty and good humor with stories that could go on for hours.  He will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, by his infant older brother, Leland Timothy, and by his pre-school younger sister Cathy.  He is survived by his dear wife, Darla Messina; beloved stepson, Dylan Messina; sister, Melissa Clare; brother, Riley Clare and niece, Katherine Clare; brother and sister-in-law, Nelson and Nan Clare and nephews, Sam Clare and Ben Clare; by great-niece and nephews and numerous cousins.
