In Loving Memory of Juliette Marie Broggi
Juliette Marie Broggi, a lifelong resident of San Antonio, Texas, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2026, at the age of 97. Born on February 4, 1929, to Ernest and Tillie Broggi, Juliette lived a long and meaningful life rooted in faith, family, friendship, and service to others.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Ernest Broggi Jr.; her sister-in-law, Pat Broggi; her stepsister, Lucille Broggi (Fecci); and her nephew, Jack Broggi.
Juliette graduated from Incarnate Word High School and dedicated many years to serving her community. She worked for 15 years as a bookkeeper at Sugarman's before working at the Bexar County Courthouse where she issued marriage licenses. Juliette was also a substitute teacher with the San Antonio Independent School District. Affectionately known as "Ms. B," she taught at several schools, including Collins Garden Elementary, Gonzales Elementary, and Seidel Elementary. Her gentle spirit, patience, and genuine love for children left a lasting impression on countless students.
Her Catholic faith was the foundation of her life. For more than 60 years, Juliette was a devoted parishioner of St. Henry Catholic Church, where she faithfully served as a lector, reader, choir member, and led the Saturday evening Rosary before Mass. She found great joy in serving her parish and remained steadfast in her faith throughout her life, faithfully praying the Rosary and watching the Mass daily.
Juliette never met a stranger. She greeted everyone with a warm smile and made each person feel welcomed and loved. Her kindness, generosity, and joyful spirit touched the lives of her family, cousins, friends, neighbors, fellow parishioners, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Music and dancing were lifelong passions. During World War II, she and her dear cousin Catherine spent Sunday afternoons at the USO dancing the jitterbug with soldiers and cadets. They also enjoyed evenings dancing at the historic Gunther Hotel, creating memories she cherished throughout her life.
Family traditions were among Juliette's greatest joys. Every Christmas, she delighted in taking John, Rudy, Mary Ann, Cathy, Choe, and Lucille to Joske's to visit Santa Claus and see the famous Christmas train display. She often said she looked forward to those outings even more than the children did. Easter at her home became another treasured tradition, complete with Easter egg hunts where the boys always seemed to find the coveted $10 egg hidden high in a tree.
Juliette's love and devotion to her family were evident throughout her life. She deeply loved her parents, especially her mother, Tillie, and faithfully drove her mother and beloved aunts wherever they needed to go, always placing the needs of others before her own. She also treasured traveling with her mother to Mexico City.
She enjoyed traveling, especially to Las Vegas, where she fulfilled a lifelong dream of seeing Elvis Presley perform. Alongside her sister-in-law, Pat Broggi, she attended three Elvis concerts at the Majestic Theatre in San Antonio before traveling to Las Vegas four more times to see him perform—memories she treasured for the rest of her life.
Her cousins Jodie, Richard, and David Lee affectionately nicknamed her "Hot Rod" because of her beloved 1946 Ford. During World War II, Uncle Frank helped her save for the car so she could drive her mother wherever she needed to go, a responsibility she lovingly embraced.
Juliette found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved spending time at the beach, enjoyed a cold Dr Pepper, and never outgrew her love for her mother Tillie's homemade lemon pie.
She was especially grateful for the friendship of Julius, whose kindness brought comfort and happiness to her life. Whether sharing dinner at Sea Island or simply spending time together, his friendship created treasured memories that enriched her later years.
One of the greatest blessings of Juliette's life was her lifelong relationship with her second cousin, Mary Ann. Juliette lovingly cared for Mary Ann as an infant, beginning a bond that would span nearly a century. In a beautiful reflection of that love, Mary Ann and her husband, Darryl, lovingly cared for Juliette during the final eight years of her life, surrounding her with compassion, dignity, and unwavering love.
Juliette lived a life defined by faith, compassion, generosity, and unconditional love. She found joy in serving others, cherished family traditions, and embraced each day with gratitude. Her legacy will live on in the countless lives she touched through her kindness and steadfast devotion to God, family, and community.
She will be deeply missed by her family, cousins, friends, church family, and all who were blessed to know her. Though our hearts mourn her passing, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a woman whose love and example will continue to inspire generations.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who showed Juliette kindness, friendship, and love throughout her life. They especially wish to thank Anne Marie Eccell, Julius Eccell, Terry Gouger, Coleen O'Conner, Jimmy O'Conner, Rudy Specia, John Specia, Patrice and Rene Soliz, Audra and David Kling, Ima and Gary Lansford, Edna Bubenik, Becky (neighbor) and Denise Barnhill for their compassion, friendship, and unwavering support.
The family also expresses sincere appreciation to Juliette's many cousins, friends, neighbors, and parish family for their visits, prayers, encouragement, and countless acts of kindness over the years. Your love and friendship brought her great comfort and joy.
Special thanks are also extended to the administrators, nurses, caregivers, staff, and residents of Shavano Park Assisted Living for the exceptional care, compassion, and friendship they shared with Juliette.
