Julian Carlos Guerrero
January 19, 1945 – August 2, 2025

Julian Carlos Guerrero, has taken his last flight here on Earth at the age of 80. Known to family and friends as Jay Boy, JC, or Jay, he passed away peacefully at home on August 2, 2025. A dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, and neighbor, Jay lived a life to the fullest, marked by curiosity, adventure, service, and a quiet devotion to those he loved.

Born in San Antonio, Texas, on January 19, 1945, Jay was the son of Dolores Galvan and Evaristo Guerrero. He was a beloved member of his large and widespread family who shaped his values and sense of belonging in both San Antonio and Austin.

Jay graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in Austin, Texas, in 1964. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1969, where he completed training at Fort Bliss before being stationed at Fort Eustis in Virginia. His time in the military reinforced in him discipline, resilience, and a commitment to learning and service that remained throughout his life.

In 1966, Jay began his career in data processing at San Antonio College, entering the world of information technology at a time when computers were just beginning to reshape the world. His skill and adaptability led him to positions at Trinity University and later with the City of San Antonio, where he worked in the Data Processing and Information Resources Departments for 20 years before retiring in 2002. His colleagues knew him as a problem solver and a man who approached his work with integrity and intense precision. Many of his work friends were lovingly subject to his frequent pranks and playful nature.

An adventurer and lifelong learner, Jay earned his glider pilot's license in 1982 and proudly flew his Duster sailplane, enjoying the peaceful thrill of silent flight. He often spoke about the joy of soaring through the skies, guided only by wind and skill - a pursuit that reflected both his adventurous spirit and his steady, thoughtful approach that reached beyond flying.

Jay is survived by his wife, Irma; his daughter, Tanya; and his grandsons, Vincent and Charlie, who brought him immense pride and joy. He also leaves behind his siblings, Sylvia Navarro, Evelia Rivera, and Edward Guerrero, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who will remember him for his unique humor, warmth, and generosity.

He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Dolores and Paul Rios, Sr.; his father and stepmother, Evaristo "Everett" and Odilia Guerrero; his siblings, Viola Rafferty, Paul "Buddy" Rios, Jr., and Teodoro "Ted" Guerrero; and by beloved grandparents and cousins who welcomed him home.

Jay will be remembered as a man of quiet strength, sharp intellect, and endless curiosity. Whether at the controls of his glider, behind a computer solving problems, tending to his many rescued dogs, or working in his garage, he lived with a grace, kindness, and a steadfast love that will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.

A private celebration of Jay's life will be held for family and friends to share memories, stories, and laughter in honor of a life well-lived. In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift or donation to your favorite animal rescue in honor of Jay's love of dogs.
