Obituary

Juanita "Dolly" R. Dorado

On June 17, 2026 Juanita passed from this life and was embraced by our Lord Jesus Christ and our Blessed Mother the Ever-Virgin Mary.  She was born February 14, 1950 in San Antonio, Texas. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1968 with honors, earning a scholarship to Our Lady of the Lake University. She graduated in 1972 with a Bachelor Degree in Education and then later a Master in Education from UT Austin. She also graduated from Texas A&M University at Kingsville, with a Master of Education-Administration. Juanita taught at the elementary school level at various campuses for almost thirty years in both the San Antonio ISD and Austin ISD.  Years before retiring, she was promoted to Vice-Principal.

Juanita married the love of her life Homero Dorado in 1983 and their life became one filled with laughter, joy, and lots of dancing. She became a stepmother to Homero's two sons, David and Darrin, and in 2000, she and Homero joyously adopted Chloe as a newborn.

Juanita was plain and simple, a people person. She never met a stranger and she was everyone's best friend. She was kind (had a heart of gold), generous (with her gifts, time, and attention), helpful (always there for friends and family), funny (great sense of humor), smart (elementary school spelling champion, national honor society, college scholarship), well read, adventurous (she was even a competitive ballroom dancer), well-travelled (from Canada to the Yucatán, from the eastern coast of Florida to the western coast of California and beyond to Hawaii; across the United States always with friends or family in tow, especially in-laws and nieces/nephews), engaging (good conversationalist and excellent public speaker), supportive (especially of Homero's entrepreneurial spirit), interesting (would and could talk to you about anything), creative (loved taking photos, arts and crafts lover, sent out personalized cards), loving (towards her family, friends and also her students; and lest we forget her precious fur babies).

Juanita was a devout Catholic. She deeply believed in the power of prayer. She was devoted to the Holy Trinity and our Blessed Mother and prayed for everyone on a daily basis.

Juanita and Homero's adoption of Chloe as an infant fulfilled their dream of having a child together and subsequently, the arrival of her grandchildren, Danielle and Octavio, became the source of Juanita's newest pride and joy.

When she became ill to the point of not being able to venture out as often as she would have liked, she shared precious weekends with Chloe watching television, especially game shows oftentimes answering questions before the contestants. This was their special time together.

Juanita went by many titles: Ms. Reyna, Ms. Dorado, teacher, wife, mother, daughter, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, godmother, comadre, grandma, friend, and she was made an honorary Polish citizen - introducing Ms. Juanita Reynaszeski!

Juanita was greatly loved and will be missed by all her family and the many, many friends and past co-workers she leaves behind.

Juanita was preceded in death by her husband, Homero Dorado, and parents, Octavio and Isabel Reyna.

Juanita is survived by her daughter, Chloe Danielle Marie Dorado (Jonathan), step-sons, David Dorado and Darrin (Leanne) Dorado; siblings, Octavio "Toby" (Gloria) Reyna, Richard (Rose Mary) Reyna, Lindy Reyna-Ochoa, and Irma Reyna; grandchildren, Danielle Dorado-Reyna, Octavio Dorado-Reyna, David Dorado Jr. (David) and Nicole Dorado (Darrin); niece, Melissa Reyna, and nephews, Toby (Gloria), Chris, and Michael Reyna; grandniece, Julia Reyna, grandnephews, Adrian and Joshua Reyna; and numerous godchildren.
