Juana (Janie) Quiroz Esparza was born on March 27, 1928 in San Antonio, Texas. She began her journey into a new kingdom on January 13, 2023. She was the daughter of Florencio Quiroz and Tomasa Molina. A lifelong resident of the West Side, she graduated from San Antonio's Vocational and Technical School in 1947.
Music was always a big part of her life, enjoying going to dances with high school friends and neighbors who became lifetime friends. In 1953, she met her husband, Alfonso Esparza Monreal (1932-2019) at a dance in downtown San Antonio. Together they welcomed 3 children into their family: Phillip (Conchis), Laura Jean (Fred), and Alfonso Jr. After Grandpa Al passed in 2019, her youngest, Ponchito, became her constant companion and pillar in life. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren: Miguel Carlos Silva Esparza and Gabriel Lorenzo Silva Esparza; she constantly checked about their well-being. During her last hours in this world, she opened her eyes, looked at her youngest grandson and called him, "Mi Cielo" (my heaven). One of the most memorable moments in her life was the birth of her great-grandson, Thiago Esparza.
Family time was a big part of her world. Trip highlights of visits to family and friends in Mexico were frequently related. If there was a family celebration, she never wanted to miss it! She was the 5 th of 8 children, of which one, Patricio Quiroz, survives. In heaven, she is joining: Phillip, Maria de los Santos, Gregory, Maria de la Luz, Maria del Socorro and Celia. There she will not only reunite with her loving husband Al, but also with her best friend and niece, Elvira Hernandez. She is also survived by an extended family of in-laws, nieces and nephews.
