Josephine "Josie" Mae Jimenez Mora
Josephine Mae Jimenez Mora, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away on Monday, May 7, 2018, at the age of 93 surrounded by her loving family, at her home in San Antonio.
Josephine was born on November 6, 1924 to the late Jose Maria Jimenez and Maria Sulema Valdez, both from San Antonio, Texas. Josephine was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, and friend. Her passion for life and love for her family will remain with us eternally.
Josephine was reunited in Heaven with her husband, Mike L. Mora and was preceded in death by her brother Alfred V. Jimenez, son Jerome J. Mora, granddaughter Michelle Rose Mora, and grandson Mike Ryan Martinez. Josephine is survived by her children Michael J. (Mary) Mora, Cynthia A. (John) Hawkins, Janet M. Martinez, Melinda M. (Sam) Garza, Gerard A. (Christina) Mora, and James V. (Gabriela) Mora; 21 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson.
Josie met her love, Mike (Mikie), at Luther Burbank Vocational High School when she was 16 years old. They were married on August 22, 1942 and celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary in 2017.
Josie was known as the "Queen of Mitchell Street" because she was so beautiful, but very shy. During high school, she was a member of the Burbank Bulldog Orange Jackets pep squad.
Josie's first job was as a stenographer at the Fort Sam Houston Army Base at the age of 17. After working at Fort Sam for one year, she began a job at Lone Star Brewery during WWII on the assembly line, washing and recycling the bottles and the good bottle caps. Her true profession and passion were for her family and raising her six children. A devoted wife and mother, Josie was a faith-filled woman, and steadfastly prayed, thanking God for Mikie's safe return home during WWII. Her prayers were answered. He returned home, miraculously protected from casualties that he witnessed all around him. Her faith in God has always been the foundation for the family.
Josie loved to dance and she taught Mike how to dance. You could always find them on the dance floor as they "cut the rug", doing the jitterbug! They also frequented the Majestic theatre in downtown San Antonio, as well as the Aztec, Texas and Empire theatres. Some of the family's favorite memories were annual camping trips to Garner State Park, Six Flags Over Texas, and Easter picnics at Raymond Russell and Brackenridge Parks. Josephine and Mike knew how to celebrate life with weekly family gatherings and Texas BBQ!
Josie will forever be remembered for her faith in God, gentle spirit, tenderheartedness, compassion, wisdom, faithfulness, and love for everyone. We celebrate her life; she was truly a Proverbs 31 woman!
"A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies.
Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.
Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.
Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
Honor her for all that her hands have done,
and let her works bring her praise at the city gate."
(Proverbs 31:10, 28-30)
