Obituary

Mrs. Josephine G. (Josie) Delgado, affectionately known by her grandchildren and many others as MooMoo, passed away on Monday, April 8, 2024 at the age of 99.

Josie began her life of hard work and service at the age of 14, delivering tortillas for her father's molino.  As an adult she worked for Garner Stationery before retiring from Southern-Pabst Engraving Co.  The family she and her husband Arturo created meant everything to her.  Her 4 boys were her world.  She took on additional work such as ironing and babysitting to help ensure they received private school educations from San Fernando Catholic School to Central Catholic High School.  (She was a proud CC mom and years later a proud CC grandma and great-grandma.) One of her biggest roles was that of afterschool and summer caregiver for most of her grandchildren as well as caring for her elderly mother-in-law and then later her elderly father.  Family always came first.

Josie loved to play bingo, loteria, and traveled to Las Vegas every year for over 40 years to play the slots.  She was a fantastic cook and worked tirelessly in her avocado green kitchen to create feasts for her family whether it was a holiday or just because it was a Friday.  There was always so much love and laughter in that kitchen!  If you were lucky enough to know her, you probably were lucky enough to have her cook for you.  No one left her house hungry!  A longtime member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, the Guadalupanas, and the Disabled American Veterans Ladies Auxiliary (Chapter 25), she often shared her talents in the kitchen to support many festivals and fundraisers. She was usually among the first into the kitchen and always among the last to leave.

Josie was preceded in death by her husband, Arturo A. Delgado; parents, Cristobal and Isidra Garcia; her 7 brothers and sisters, and by a great-grandchild, Hikari.

She is survived by her sons:  John F. Delgado and wife Gloria, Guadalupe Delgado, Albert Delgado and wife Mary, Charlie Delgado and wife Carmen; ex-daughters-in-law, Margaret Delgado, Teresa Bates; grandchildren: Patt (Jerry), David Michael (Ryan), Chris (Raquel), Denise (Robert), Marisa (Koichi), John Anthony (Natalie), Diane Marie (Johanna), Jennifer (Norberto), Analisa (John), Tiffany, Arthur, Gabriel, Moises (Rebecca), Elijio (Kristi) and Ramon; great-grandchildren: Alyssa (Adam), Christian, Logan, Matthew, Jaden, Zooey, Namika Josephine, Ethan, Isaac, Ezra, Zelda, Lucien, Leandro, RJ, Elena Josie, Evelina, Luca, Sophie, Angelina, Luke and one on the way; great-great-grandson, Isaac Gavain; sisters-in-law, Ernestina Navarro and Irene Delgado; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends who all loved her dearly.

Our heartfelt thanks to her caregivers Hilda Castaneda, Margarita Rabago and especially Bertha Chavez, whom she always held dear to her heart.  We also thank Cindy Cantu and all the nurses and aides from Abundant Hospice for keeping her comfortable and helping us through this difficult time.  To her long-time neighbors: John, Diana and Rose, thank you for looking out for her throughout the years.  Gloria and Mary thank you for caring for her as if she was your own mother, and to her boys, you guys were always there for your parents...you're all definitely going to Heaven with your shoes on!!!

Josephine, Josie, Josefina, Fina, ( Lila ), Mom, MooMoo,

was truly one of a kind and we are all better people because of her.

We will forever be grateful for her countless sayings which will forever make us laugh,
