It is with heavy hearts and sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Josephine Ann Gilchrist, aged 85, on Saturday, May 24, 2025, a beloved soul who touched so many. Jo showed strength, love, courage, and commitment to her faith until her very last breath. She was born to Richard and Alice Morrison on June 8, 1939, in San Antonio, Texas. She graduated from Brackenridge High School in San Antonio, Texas. She met and married her late husband and college sweetheart, Jon, at Texas Tech University. They had two loving and grateful children, Kurt Andrew Gilchrist and his wife Kathy of Longview, Texas and Kathleen Anne Mueller and her husband Wayne of San Antonio, Texas. Jo ("Gran") was blessed with four amazing grandchildren, Katie Lauren Gilchrist, Jackson Reed Gilchrist, Elizabeth Keller-Ann Mueller and Claire Josephine Mueller. Jo ("Cissy") is also survived by her beautiful sister, Betty Jean Gatlin of San Antonio and her wonderful nieces, grand and great grand nieces and nephews. She was a devoted wife, an incredible mother and grandmother and a loyal friend to so many.
Later in her life, Jo returned to school to finish her bachelor's degree from Southwest Texas State University. She retired after a 15-year career at USAA in San Antonio, Texas. A devout Catholic, Jo was an active member of St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and volunteered at the Food Pantry and Rummage Sale. She was known for her generous spirit, which was a direct reflection of her faith in God and her desire to help others. Jo was active with many other community services such as the Majestic Theatre and Animal Defense League. She had a special love for all things dachshunds.
Jo was a gifted gardener who loved to share her knowledge with friends and neighbors. She had a special talent for reviving withered plants that others would have discarded.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Christus Hospice and Methodist Stone Oak Hospital of San Antonio.
