Rev. Joseph A. Tarrillion died in the service of the Blessed Virgin on March 2, 2017 at the age of 83 and with 64 years of vowed life.

He was born in San Antonio and attended Central Catholic High School. He received his bachelor's degree in English from St. Mary's University in 1955 and immediately began teaching high school at East St. Louis and St. Louis, MO.

In 1962, he went to the Marianist Seminary in Fribourg, Switzerland and was ordained in 1966. He served for an additional year in Fribourg and then taught at Don Bosco High School in Milwaukee.  He moved into Religious Education at St. Mary's Parish in South Milwaukee in 1969.  From 1971 to 1977 he lived in St. Louis and was Religious Education Coordinator for the Marianist Province of St. Louis and the director of the first Marianist community devoted to the development of the Marianist Family.  During this period of time, Fr. Joe obtained a Masters in Religious Education from Notre Dame University.  From 1977 until 1993, he ministered at St. Mary's University as a professor and as the Chairman of the Theology Department.  In this time, he completed his Doctor of Ministry in Religious Education at the Austin School of Theology.

In 1997, Fr. Joe was called to serve as President of his alma mater, Central Catholic High School. He was extremely effective and served there until 2008.  He had to resign due to illness in 2008.  He lived at the Marianist Residence Community until his death.  He is survived by one brother and a devoted number of nieces and nephews.

Viewing will begin on Thursday, March 9, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Central Catholic High School and will resume at 6:00 PM with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM at the Marianist Residence Chapel, 520 Fordham, San Antonio, TX. Visitation will begin on Friday, March 10, at 9:30 AM with the Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 10:30 AM at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 159 Camino Santa Maria, San Antonio, TX.  Burial will follow immediately at the Marianist Cemetery.

There will be a reception at 12 noon in the Alkek Building at St. Mary's University. Central Catholic High School will have a Memorial Service in the near future.
