Obituary

Josefina "Josie" R. Calvillo, age 90, of San Antonio entered into eternal rest on Saturday, June 3, 2017.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Maurilio and Josefina Luna Rodriguez; sisters, Maria Rosa Sandoval and Margarita Vidal.

Josie is survived by her children Christine Tagle (Richard) and William Paul Arriaga (Monica); sister, Consuelo "Connie" Rivera and brother Maurilio Rodriguez, Jr.; grandchildren, Yvette Tagle, Richard Tagle (Ashley), Rebecca Flores, and Randi Flores; great-grandchildren, Aracelie, Emma, Mark, Leigha, and Raelyn; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Josie was a practical and frugal woman who instilled in her children the importance of a strong work ethic.  Josie retired as a phlebotomist supervisor from University Health System in 1999 where she worked for more than 30 years.  She was strong, fiercely independent, and self-sufficient in every way.

Josie drew her last breath surrounded by family, and departed this life for the next peacefully, knowing that she was loved.

The family extends a heartfelt appreciation to the first responders who acted quickly to ensure that Josie received proper medical attention, the emergency room doctors and staff at Baptist Medical Center downtown who stabilized Josie, and a very special thank you to ER Nurse Mary Hawkins, whose love and support we could not live without, the extremely competent doctors and nurses at St. Luke's Baptist Comprehensive Stroke Center, who educated and informed us, comforted us, and most importantly, provided the highest quality level of care for Josie.  We would also like to thank CIMA Hospice for their compassion.  We will always remember the way in which you cared for Josie.
