Obituary

Jose Angel Martinez, Loving Father, Grandfather, Great-grandfather, Godfather and favorite Uncle of many, rose with the Lord, March 27, 2016, Easter Sunday, the holiest day of the year, at the age of 97. Tenderly known as "Grandpa" to everyone who knew him, a larger than life, one of kind, institution to his family and friends.

He served in Europe, World War II as a Corporal in the Army Air Corps. His decorations include, American Theatre Campaign Ribbon, EAME, Campaign Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Ribbon, one Service Stripe and two Overseas Service Bars. Retired from The Lone Star Brewery where he was affectionately known as, "Joe the Bartender"; a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus where he actively served in his younger years; a Knight of the 4th Degree title he so proudly wore. He was an active member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, more particularly in frequent donations of food for the poor. Grocery shopping for the needy was his pleasure. He had a passion for God, family and life! His devotion to God and his family was monumental and he led his family in humility and by good example.

He had a fervor for playing dominos and was unbeatable. Outdoor cookouts always included chicken wings. Tinkering with his truck was a favorite pastime as was his own home repairs. Ensuring that each and every family member had enough gas in their vehicles and money in their pockets was second to none in his caregiving qualities.
