Johnny C. Salazar was called home into the Lords loving arms and entered his new life on August 10, 2024. During his transition he was surrounded by the people he loved the most, his family. Johnny lived his life for his family.
He was proceeded in death by his father, Santiago Salazar, his mother, Beatrice Salazar; his, brother, David C. Salazar and his sister-in-law, Karen Chaconas.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Donna Salazar; his children Jennifer Marquez and husband Luis, and his son Jonathan Salazar; his grandchildren: Nathaniel Salazar, Jaedyn Salazar and Skyler Marquez; his brother, Jimmy Salazar and wife Veronica Salazar and his sister-in-law, Cathy Salazar; sister-in-law, Debbie Cowden and husband Ross; brother-in-law, Tommy Easterling and wife Anne; brother-in-law, Jim Chaconas; along with multiple nephews and nieces.
Johnny and Donna met in 1972 while Johnny was playing baseball for Farmers Club baseball team. They met through Donna's brother Tommy and they were together for 52 years. They were devoted to each other and created beautiful memories and made a beautiful life together. They truly lived out their vows of for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, 'til death do them part.
Johnny believed that there was no one more important than his family and he lived his life just that way. If he called you his friend, that really meant something because he was so loyal to all that he loved and cared for.
He grew up on the South side of San Antonio and graduated from Burbank High School in 1972. There he played baseball and was the quarterback for the football team. His love for sports continued throughout his life as he coached his nephews and sons and daughters' baseball and softball teams. But he is most remembered for coaching a women's softball team called Johnny's Angels.
At 17, he began his career in the hospital laundry business at National Linen, moved on to Martin Linen and ended at Central Texas Laundry. He worked for 3 companies his whole life and was 52 years in the same line of work.
Johnny loved watching any type of sport, and while he had a love hate relationship with them, his favorite teams were the Dallas Cowboys, the New York Yankees, the San Antonio Spurs and the Texas Longhorns.
He was so proud of his family, was always on the sidelines cheering them on and was so full of pride when they were successful. Most recently he was so filled with pride watching his grandson, Nathaniel, graduate from UTSA and his granddaughter, Jaedyn graduate from High School as the Valedictorian.
Johnny enjoyed fishing, golf, sports, dinners with family and spontaneous trips to Kickapoo Casino in Eagle Pass. He also really loved celebrating all of the San Antonio Fiesta events with his family.
Thank you for all the prayers, love and support. He was so loved and touched so many lives and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
