Beloved daughter, sister, aunt and friend. Jo Ann enjoyed traveling, photography, dancing, playing poker, the Spurs & Cowboys and was a fan of all things Mickey Mouse. A kidney donor and an advocate for organ donation, her generosity and spirit will live on. Anyone who met Jo Ann immediately were welcomed, made to feel like a long lost friend and would always know that she would help whenever needed. Jo Ann lived life to its fullest and without regret. One of her favorite roles was that of Aunt – she loved her nieces and nephews and was proud of them and all of their accomplishments. She was always very generous and thoughtful in helping out her family and friends. Her love of travel and work commitments allowed her to see all 50 states. A frequent travel companion was her mother. They had many great and memorable trips, where Jo Ann was always doting on and taking care of every detail to make sure that her mother had a great time. Her generosity, caring spirit and ability to make others happy and feel special was something that many who knew her experienced. She was a graduate of Jefferson High School where she was a Lt. of Company T in the Lasso organization and later became the first lifetime member of the Lasso Alumni organization. Jo Ann earned the CIC and LUTF designations in 1987. In May 1990, Jo Ann earned her BBA in Accounting from UTSA and in 1991 was licensed as a CPA in Texas. As a member of the National Faculty for the National Alliance, Jo Ann traveled throughout the U.S. and lectured for CIC and CISR. Jo Ann enjoyed a long-time career serving her many tax, accounting and insurance clients.
She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Ehrlich, a former Lt. in the S.A. Fire Dept. and her husband, Charles Dickinson, a retired S.A. Police Officer. She is survived by her mother, Gloria Ehrlich, her sisters Shirley Ehrlich, Cindy Waterhouse (Ken) Judy Lopez and Nancy Ozuna (Andrew). Nieces and nephews Jennifer Foglio (Michael), Brandon and Stephanie Waterhouse, Erica Lopez Flores (Chris) and Jason Lopez, Matthew, Alyssa and Charles Ozuna. Great nieces Gabriella and Adelynn Foglio and Mila Flores.
Being goal oriented, competitive and a bit stubborn, she decided to participate in the S.A. Firefighters Hero Fest 5k-10k after a week of training. She wanted to earn the medal for completing the race in memory of her father. She finished the race, posted a picture of her medal online and died shortly thereafter of an apparent heart attack.
A favorite quote of Jo Ann's was "Life is not measured by the breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away." She certainly had many of those breathtaking moments throughout her life and will forever be loved and remembered by family and friends.
