Jesse Hector Rodriguez, dearly loved husband and father, entered eternal rest on January 2, 2015 at the age of 90. He was a very wise, funny, devoted, and compassionate man who believed that there was much to learn throughout a lifetime and continuously challenged himself to do so. He possessed a calm character and undaunted spirit that drew others in, as did his radiant smile. Above all, he loved God and his family immensely and taught by the good examples he set throughout his life. Born in Eagle Pass Texas, at age 6 his family relocated to Houston Texas where he received his early education. After high school he enlisted and served in the Army for 2 years. On his return his family moved to San Antonio where he again joined the military; this time serving in the Air Force as a combat radio operator. He received an Honorable Discharge from both arms of the service. After active duty he continued his schooling and worked at Kelly Air Force Base as a civil engineer for 26 years. It was in the early days of this career that he met and fell in love with his beautiful and loving wife of 58 years, Theresa. He continued his education in multiple fields of interest subsequently earning a license as a real estate broker and property appraiser and beginning his own real estate business, Jefferson Real Estate. Additionally, because of hearing loss as a result of his time in the service, he began to learn American Sign Language as an alternate means of communication and eventually spent 15 years as an interpreter for the deaf. Despite his many accomplishments, Jesse never sought recognition or praise but rather focused on and encouraged the aspirations of his children. Jesse was preceded in death by parents Doroteo and Carlota Rodriguez, brothers Manual, Rudy, and Joe Rodriguez, sister Mary Valle, and infant grandson Jesse. He is survived by his wife Theresa Dillard Rodriguez, children Edmund J (Sylvia) of Houston, David A, Vivian Martinez, Jesse Jr. (Susan), Thomas R (Livia), and 16 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all of those he leaves behind but his spirit will continue to live on in all of us. Visitation will be held at Angelus Funeral Home on Thursday at 4pm followed by Rosary at 6. Services will be held at St. Paul Catholic Church at 9:45am Friday followed by interment at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Pj's Children's Home at www.stpjhome.org.
