Obituary

Jason Martinez, a proud, true warrior and honorable disabled Army veteran was called home by the Lord on October 16, 2021 at the Audie L. Murphy VA Hospital in San Antonio, Texas.  He was in the presence of his loving family.

Jason was diagnosed with FLT3+ AML in June of 2019.  Facing his adversary with courage and dignity he was going on 3 years fighting this disease, looking forward to a full recovery so he could continue his lifetime goals.

Jason was so happy to have met one of his goals.  He completed and graduated from a college Bio Medical Equipment Technology Program in San Antonio.

Jason, born in Big Spring, Texas was raised and grew up in Big Spring until he moved to San Antonio with his sister and Mother.

Jason was a blessing and inspiration to have as a son, husband, relative and friend.  He was an intelligent, creative, talented and wonderful person.  Those who knew Jason very well knew that he had a gift of compassion, kind and had such a huge heart and was just filled with so much LOVE and JOY and will be missed tremendously.

We always admired Jason's strength, courage and even at sad times, he would find ways to smile or even make others laugh and smile.  He never let obstacles effect his never-ending enthusiasm for life.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers: Ramon G. Torres, Sr. and Agustin L. Resendez, and uncles: Ramon G. (Boy) Torres, Jr. and Ralph Anthony (Tony) Torres, Sr.

Jason is survived by his wife, Rita Garcia, their 2 four legged fur babies, Kornelius and McScruffin; mother, Cynthia Resendez (Ruben); grandmothers: Connie Torres (Ramon Sr.) and Ofelia Resendez (Agustin); sister, Kimberly Ann Rodriguez (Richard); niece, Gabriela Moon Rodriguez and numerous cousins, aunts, uncles, other beautiful nieces and wonderful nephews.

Lastly we would especially like to thank Dr. David Hailey and Bonita Owens for their truly outstanding dedication and commitment to Jason and express our heartfelt gratitude to the entire staff at the VA Hospital Bone Marrow Transplant Unit (BMT).
