Rev. James Joseph Mueller, a Marianist, died on March 19, 2021 at the Marianist Residence.  He was 86 years old and lived Marianist religious life for 67 years.  He first met the Marianist as he attended Mass with his family at St. Mary's University.  He attended Central Catholic High and St. Mary's University.

He was proceeded in death by his parents Edwin and Nellie (Salter) Mueller; his brothers Dr. Ed and Dr. Jack and his sister, Betty Conley.  He is survived by his sisters Nell Kothmann of Uvalde and Margaret Wolf of San Antonio and his brother Dr. Bill (Jean) of San Antonio and sisters-in-law, Mary Mueller and Patricia Mueller.  Fr. Jim is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews.

He made final vows in 1957 and was ordained in 1967.  Fr. Jim once said that he did not expect to travel when he joined the Marianists.  However, responding to whatever needs the Province had, Fr. Jim served in eight states as a teacher, chaplain, coach, and moderator.  He also served in four other countries.  He served in Canada and Switzerland.  He did a sabbatical in Rome.  His longest overseas time was in Japan as he was teacher and principal at two schools.  In all of these locations, he served with great energy, enjoyment and caring.  His deep faith touched many lives.
