Isabel (McClosky) Grothues was born October 29, 1931, to Frank and Bessie McClosky in San Antonio, Texas. She was the youngest of five children and a proud graduate of St. Mary's High School downtown.
In 1956 she asked a young Marcel Grothues what he was thinking; she got her answer when they married in January of 1957. She was the cornerstone of the lives of her four children, ten grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. She was proud of her Polish heritage and was a strong woman of faith for all of her life. She also loved to dance. Polish polkas were a favorite. It was on the dance-floor where she met her future husband, and he was always her favorite and best dance partner. They danced for 64 blessed years.
Always a hard worker, Isabel volunteered years of her time at her children's schools; at Sacred Heart Parish, Von Ormy, teaching First Communion classes and serving as a member of the Altar Society; and at St. Francis Nursing Home. She helped Marcel run the family farm and was a fierce baker of countless pies, cinnamon rolls, cakes, and cookies. She was a firm believer in eating desserts first, and she preferred to drive rather than fly so she wouldn't miss anything. She was always up for a trip or a party and thought that family was the most important thing in the world. She was right.
Isabel passed away on February 1, 2021. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Eugene, and sisters Leocadia and Rose. She will be missed by her husband, Marcel; her sister, Louise; her children, Patrick (Cheryl), Frank (Wendy), Anne, and Denise (Les); her grandchildren, John (Kristin), Stephen (Brittany), Kevin (Taylor), Natalie, Alan, Diane, Will, Emily, Claire, and Emma; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Paige, Olivia, and Michael; and numerous nieces and nephews.
