Irma Christina Soto was born April 18, 1947 in San Antonio, TX to Pedro and Carmen Soto. The oldest of three sisters, she attended Carvajal Elementary where her love of nursing began. Irma would often volunteer to make Q-tips for the school nurse and spoke of the memory often as the beginning of her nursing career.
She then attended Fox Tech High School where as a member of the Mighty Buffalo Band, Future Nurse's of America, and Editor of The Technician school newspaper she met the future love of her life, Jake G Vinton. In Spanish class, Irma would grade Jake's blank test paper to give him a passing grade which could never be higher than hers. Irma and Jake wed on February 17, 1968 and over the next 30 years they enjoyed dancing, fishing, camping, traveling, and trips to the beach. They shared these joys with their 3 daughters: Adriana, Laura, and Veronica.
Irma fulfilled her dream of becoming a nurse in 1973 and began working at Southwest Texas Methodist Hospital, where she would remain for over 30 years. Upon retirement from Methodist Hospital she began working as a school nurse and could now mentor children as she had once been mentored.
In 2016 she retired from nursing due to her Dementia diagnosis. She bravely faced this new challenge in her life with full knowledge of what this diagnosis meant. As a woman of faith, great moral values, and a strong sense of independence she took it head on.
Irma was preceded in death by her husband, Jake Vinton; parents, Pedro and Carmen Soto; and is survived by her daughters: Adriana Vinton, Laura Vinton and Veronica Leckie (Orlando); grandchildren: Jake, Amanda, Nicholas, Christina, Avery and Aidan; great-grandchild, Liam; sisters, Hilda Poindexter (Bruce), and Silvia Soto
