Irene Rita (Herrera) Smith, much beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, 94, passed away November 16, 2021.

She was preceded in death by "Smitty," her husband of 66 years, parents Alejandro & Petra Herrera, 4 brothers and 5 sisters.

She was born in San Antonio, TX. and spent her life in the city that she loved.  She retired from Kelly AFB with over 30 years of service.

Irene and Smitty were long time members of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and St. Dominic's Catholic Church.  They were also avid U.T. Longhorn supporters and high school sports boosters for as long as they were able.

Irene is survived by her children: Carol, Gary (Linda), Deborah (Richard), Larry (Karen) and Barry who was her caregiver for 6 ½ years.  Grandchildren: Casey, Elizabeth, Nicholas, Travis, Lee, Darren, and six great-grandchildren. Three sisters Hope, Gloria, Linda, sister-in-law Gloria, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will begin Thursday, December 9, at 5:30 P.M. in The Angelus Funeral Home Chapel, with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 P.M.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday December 10, at 1:00 PM at St. Dominic's Catholic Church, 5919 Ingram Rd.  Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
