Homer J. Mendez age 93 of San Antonio died Saturday, August 29, 2015. He lived all his life in San Antonio where he attended school at the old Main High School (Fox Tech). Shortly after he graduated, Homer secured a civilian job in Europe on a secret project called Station X, which was a well kept British secret during WWll. In 1941 Homer returned to the states and entered the Army/Air Force where he returned to England and served as a bombardier and nose gunner in the notorious B-17 Flying Fortress. Homer flew 13 successful missions over Germany for the 351st bomb group stationed out of Polebrook England. He was awarded the Air Medal for meritorious achievement in ariel flight. After the war, he returned to civilian life where met the love of his life Ludy and had 5 children. He took jobs with Kelly Air Force Base, Tobin Aerial, Adams Land Survey, and San Fernando Catholic Cemetery, where he would ultimately retire after 24 years of service. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ludy Mendez, and is survived by his sons: Homer J. Mendez, Jr. and wife Patricia and Michael Mendez; daughters: Alice Arispe, Rose Marie Danna, and Theresa Mendez; his grandchildren; Christopher Arispe, Veronica Arispe, Adrian Arispe, Rene Felan, Adriana Mendez, and Joseph Mendez; great-grandchildren: Andres, Adrian, Anastasia and Emery. FUNERAL SERVICES Visitation will begin Tuesday at 5:00 P.M. in The Angelus Chapel with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 P.M. Funeral Mass will be offered Wednesday at 10:00 A.M. at St. Paul's Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at San Fernando Archdiocesan Cemetery No.2.
