Obituary

Hermelinda P. Martinez went peacefully to be with the Lord on February 25, 2022.  Hermelinda was born on January 17, 1921 in Mission, Texas to her loving parents Domingo and Severa Perez.  She was raised in the Rio Grande Valley where she tirelessly worked in the medical community with several doctors.  According to her, she must have helped deliver half of the city's population.

Mom was well known in the community for her generosity.  She was called Mele by almost everyone.  After working all day she would come home and give her favorite shots, B-12 and Linconson, to the people who couldn't afford to see a doctor.  We always had plenty of fruits and vegetables that people would bring in thanksgiving.  She was always involved in service projects such as visiting the homebound, leading the Rosary at funerals, driving people who didn't have transportation to appointments, Post Office, hair appointments and of course her carload of friends going to Bingo.  She was an active member of Catholic Daughters, Altar Society, Legion of Mary, Guadalupanas in Mission.

She was a woman who spoke her mind and conviction, a woman who wanted things done correctly, a woman of quick wit, a woman who loved her family and loved playing Bingo.

Hermelinda was preceded in death by her parents, Domingo and Severa Perez, her husband, Gilberto M. Martinez, her infant son, siblings Edelmira Avila, Ricardo Perez, Elida Guerrero and granddaughter, Linda Denise Avalos.

Surviving family include Mary "Penny" Castilla (+Elmo), Linda M. Diaz (Homero), Gil Martinez, Elizabeth Ybarra (George; 9 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces.

The family would like to thank Fr. Pat O'Brien, family, friends from the SPX Community for their support and prayers.  We also thank the Regent Care Oakwell Farms facility especially Darlene Carter, Carolyn Green, Sally Rodgers and Sylvester Bule.
