Henry Galvan

March 3, 1937 – June 11, 2025 (Age 88)

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Henry Galvan, a devoted brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and cherished friend to many. He departed this life on June 11, 2025, at the age of 88, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, service, and unwavering love.

Born on March 3, 1937, in El Monte, California, Henry was the beloved son of Bartola Venegas. He spent his formative years in Salt Lake City, Utah, before answering the call to serve his country. In 1956, he joined the United States Air Force and served honorably as a Reciprocating Engine Mechanic with the 19th Logistic Support Squadron, specializing in the transport of nuclear weapons and equipment aboard the Douglas C-124 Globemaster II. He was honorably discharged in 1960 and set out to pursue his education with the same sense of purpose he brought to his military service.

Henry earned his Bachelor of Social Work from Our Lady of the Lake University in 1976, followed by a Master of Social Work in 1977. He began his counseling career at the VA Medical Center, working with Vietnam veterans struggling with PTSD and substance abuse disorders.  Later, in the 1980s, he joined the Texas Department of State Health Services where he continued his mission of healing.

A lifelong learner and dedicated professional, Henry became a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and a Certified Criminal Justice Specialist. In 1996, he founded Image Counseling Center in San Antonio, offering mental health, domestic violence, and substance abuse counseling. In 2005, he joined his son Michael in establishing United Counseling Center, serving as co-facilitator for twelve years. That same year, he passed the Licensed Irrigator Exam through the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and later founded Rainman Irrigation, which he operated until his retirement from the trade in 2015. In 2017, after more than four decades of dedicated service to others, Henry retired from counseling.

Henry was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, a devout Catholic, and a compassionate contributor to his community. He will be remembered for the deep love and steadfast support he gave to family, friends, clients, and even strangers. His calm presence, boundless humor, and ability to prioritize his family while serving others captured the essence of who he was.

To his children, he was a loving father, a steady coach, and an encouraging mentor. To his grandchildren, he was a proud and joyful cheerleader at sporting events and dance recitals. To his siblings, he was a warm-hearted soul, quick to offer a seat at the table and happy to spend hours lost in laughter. To everyone who knew him, Henry was a man whose smile and laughter could light up any room.

Henry is survived by his brother Tony and his sister Mary; his children Mark, Michael, and Melissa; his grandchildren Matthew, Marcella, Sean, Thomas, and Ryan; and his great-grandchild Philip. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Yolanda, his sister Clara, and his brother Ruben.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 19th from 6:00–7:00 p.m., followed by a Rosary at 7:00p.m at Angelus Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, June 20th at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows, followed by the funeral service at San Fernando Cemetery.

Let he who has watered, be watered. Let he who has given, be given to. Let he who refused to rest, rest now in eternal peace.
