Obituary

Mrs. Helen Theresa Garza, beloved mother, grandmother and friend, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at the age of 92, reuniting with her husband, Andrew Garza, Jr., who preceded her in death and to whom she was married for 59 years. Born in San Antonio, TX on February 15, 1932, she was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church and retired from Lackland Air Force Base where she worked as a secretary for 31 years.

Helen was kind, loving and generous. She had a zest for life that included being an avid photographer as well as enjoying trips to the casino with friends and family, showcasing her fondness for chance, luck and grandeur.

Her kindness extended outside of those closest to her – volunteering with St. Vincent de Paul, and giving back to the community, including being part of the volunteers who helped build and maintain the children's playground at Hemisfair Park in 1987.

Always warm, always caring, always bright – her spirit will live on not only through memory, but in our hearts, knowing that she was proud not only of who we were when around her, but also proud of everything she knew we could be.

Additionally, Helen was preceded in death by her parents Cirilo and Rafaela Rangel, and her siblings Olga Landeros, Doris Garza and Mario Rangel; and several stepbrothers and stepsisters. She is survived by her children Andrew Garza III and wife Karen, Daniel P. Garza and wife Nina, and daughter, Janette Rother; grandchildren, Azure Garza and husband Josh, Andrew Garza IV and wife Lenzie, Jonathan Bounds, Daniel Garza Jr., Melissa Peñaloza, Jennifer Rother, Roland Rother Jr. and wife LindaRose, and Jeremy Rother; 6 great-grandchildren including Andrew Garza V, Iliana, Nathan, and Alexandria Peñaloza, Sophia Gonzalez and Clarissa Espinoza; and 1 great-great grandchild, Charles Cuellar. She also had many nieces and nephews, other family members and countless friends (both of the human and canine variety). Helen will be remembered for her warm energy and for inspiring those around her to enjoy life and be kind. She will be missed.
