Guadalupe Valadez Jaso was born on June 26, 1958 and was called Home by Our Lord on Tuesday, November 14, 2023. She was born in O'Donnell, TX to Maria Elena Valadez and Rogelio Jaso. She was preceded in death by her parents, Maria Elena and Rogelio Jaso; her brothers, Edward Jaso (Lucia); Raymond Jaso (Bertha). She is survived by Susan (47 years), (Ryan, Patti and Shannon); her brothers, Jose Jaso (Lucinda); Robert Jaso (Mary); her sisters, Helen Cortez (Roland); Eva Gonzales (Louis), Belinda Medellin (Ruben); Alice Ruiz (Rudy); and Rosa Guerra (Joe); numerous nieces and nephews; members and associates of her extended work family from Desert de Oro Foods, Inc. (Kentucky/TB).
Wallie was in the food industry for over 44 years. Desert de Oro Foods (DDO) acquired the company that Wallie worked for in 2015. There were 32 stores in total; and she explains that they went to the focus of their business "to Mark and Krystal's focus of "People". They soon went from 32 stores to 75! The "People Focus" was down to earth and caring and Wallie liked that about DDO.
Wallie's direct quote, "I don't like maliciousness or negativity." She focused on the positives and liked to share those. A beautiful compliment was given to Wallie from Restaurant Support telling her, "I like your attitude; everyone brightens up when you walk in the room; you make the people around you better." And…this was not the first person who shared this very same compliment with her. There were numerous similar compliments given to her throughout her entire career.
As Training Coach, Wallie gained her abilities as a Restaurant Training Coach on the job. She began as a Restaurant General Manager for KFC Corporate and was promoted to Training Manager for 142 restaurants. Wallie ensured that external and internal hires were receiving training. She was tasked with grooming the Restaurant Team Leaders and the Market Training managers to the next level. It was apparent that Wallie enjoyed what she was doing and was good at it. Her impact on people around her shined in her position as a Region Training Coach. She was grounded, straightforward, sincere, and humble…all ingredients for respectful encounters. She was in the field working with people in the restaurants. There's that word again…PEOPLE. Wallie stated that English was her second language; she was a proud HISPANIC, and she encouraged to see the diversity in the stores she visited.
Texas was home to Wallie, and her heart was in Texas as apparent in her choices of songs and artists that lifted her up…Tanya Tucker's Texas (When I Die) and George Strait's, "The Cowboy Rides Away." She was a Texan through and through. Another uplifting song Wallie loved was by Celine Dion, "A New Day Has Come" …with a message of strength and resilience.
She went through major breast cancer with chemo and radiation treatments and was a "Cancer Survivor." Throughout this difficult time, Susan was with her every step of the way and was continuously there supporting and encouraging her. And they succeeded, thanks to our Lord.
Needless to say, and I'm sure everyone would agree, it will be extremely hard to find or replace another Wallie. She was kind and generous, humble and each time anyone encountered her, she would always greet you with a smile on her face. That was Wallie!! Even when she was going through the toughest times in her life.
