Our beloved Mama and Grandma, Guadalupe I. Rogers, entered into rest on Thursday, July 3, 2014. Our hearts are heavy, but it has been a blessing to have been able to have her with us for so long. We take comfort knowing her deep love for God has found her a place in Heaven. She was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick Rogers Sr. and son, William Louis Rogers. She is survived by her sons: Patrick Rogers Jr., Richard Rogers and Thomas H. Rogers; 5 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. ABOUT LUPE: A famous poet, Maya Angelou, once said "People will forget what you said. People will forget what you did. But people will never forget how you made them fee." Lupe made everyone around her feel special. It's very rare in this world to love and be loved by someone who has such a pure heart-an incredible and profound capacity for unconditional love. Lupe was that person. She was a woman not only with a lifelong connection to God, she embodied the most important teaching of Christ every single day-love. She expressed her love of God in every smile, every hug, every hello and goodbye. Even after you left her, you could feel the calm, warm embrace of her presence. Lupe was love. As a young woman, Lupe was serious and spiritual. Later, she was a devoted mother, grandmother and wife, a loyal sister and friend, and a truly beloved aunt. Beyond those roles she treasured so much, the people in her life saw her as inspirational-a person who brought out the best in people. She never had a bad word to say about anyone or anything. She never gossiped. She accepted people without judgment. How many of us can claim to have such a wonderful gift? Lupe loved children and made sure to make them feel important and safe. She was quick to smile and laugh and was always ready to reassure a child's fears. Though of course we know that physical life comes to an end, Lupe was never afraid of death. She knew that the mysteries of God would be revealed. She knew probably better than anyone, that we are not put on Earth as human beings having a spiritual experience. We are actually spiritual beings having a human experience for such a short time in the greater scheme of things. She used her time on Earth to spread loving kindness. Lupe's spirit is free to be with all of us at any time. She has inspired so many of us to be better people--when we think of Lupe, let's choose to be kinder, more patient and more generous in the way we love not just the people in our lives, but everyone. That will be her legacy. Visitation will begin Monday at 5:00 P.M. in The Angelus Chapel with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 P.M. Funeral Mass will be offered Tuesday at 10:00 A.M. at San Francesco di Paola Catholic Church. Interment will follow at San Fernando Archdiocesan Cemetery No.2.
