Gordon S. Dahlmann passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on July 12, 2022 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Nordheim, Texas, on September 29, 1939, the youngest of 4 boys to Alfred and Leona Spies Dahlmann.
He graduated from Brackenridge High School in 1957 where he made many lifelong friends. He had a love and talent for playing baseball which began in Little League and continued through high school. His exceptional skill as a Catcher earned him the privilege of playing in City All Star Games. His intense love and interest in old cars and trucks led to hours of sanding, tinkering, and restoring. He applied the same energy to restoring furniture and golf clubs or anything broken thus earning the title of "Mr. Fix-It".
Gordon began his career as a Draftsman in the Engineering Dept. of the City Water Board. In 1968, he was one of four employees selected to receive special training in the fast-growing field of Computers. This was the beginning of a lifetime of learning and growing until the year 2000 when he retired with 43 years of combined service with the City Water Board and the City of San Antonio as Director of Information Services.
Gordon was happiest when spending time with his family at Holiday gatherings, cheering at sports competitions or vacationing at favorite camping destinations in the Texas Hill Country or the Texas Seacoast. As a member of SARGA and The Over Fifty Group he enjoyed the exercise, fresh air, camaraderie, and frustrations of the noble game of golf. When health issues caused him to hang up his clubs, missing his buddies, he followed the weekly postings of winners and losers. Gordon had a generous spirit, great sense of humor, quick wit, never knew a stranger, and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Nelson, James, and Kenneth and son, Glenn. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Janice Gastinger Dahlmann; son, Jeffrey Dahlmann; daughter, Jennifer Greene (Mike); granddaughters, Heather and Hailee Hutchingson and grandson, Hunter Greene.
