On Wednesday, May 21st, 2025, our beloved Gloria Jane Vara—devoted daughter, sister, aunt, and the joyful heart of our family—was called home to be with our Lord.
Born in San Antonio, Texas on February 11th, 1950, to Hilario Vara Jr. and Carmen Sanchez Vara, Gloria was the second of six children. She grew up surrounded by love, laughter, and the strong family bonds that shaped the compassionate life she would go on to lead.
From an early age, Gloria radiated a joyful spirit that made every room warmer and every burden lighter. Known for her bright smile, gentle humor, and deep well of patience, she was a natural caregiver—not only in title but in soul. She lovingly tended to many of her ailing family members, walking alongside them with unwavering compassion and dignity, often until the final moments of their lives.
She had a special gift with children and animals, offering both a nurturing presence and a playful heart. Though she never had children of her own, Gloria was "Ya-Ya" to many nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews—an affectionate title that speaks to the unique and cherished role she held in their lives.
Gloria's love was steady, her loyalty deep, and her kindness unconditional. Whether she was helping a sibling, comforting a child, or caring for a stray animal, her acts of care defined her life's work and left a lasting impact on all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hilario and Carmen; her sister, Pauline Berlanga and her brothers, Ricardo and Reynaldo Vara. She is survived by her beloved brothers, Ernest Vara and Hilario Vara III. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members who adored her dearly and will carry her memory forward with great love and gratitude.
Gloria's legacy is one of joy, service, and unshakable love—a legacy that lives on in the hearts of those who called her sister, aunt, friend, and Ya-Ya.
