Gloria Ann Valdez, 77, entered into eternal rest on October 18, 2025 at 8:18 am surrounded by her loving family.
Gloria was born in Houston, TX on February 15, 1948 to Aurora Rodriguez. She spent her childhood years in Houston before moving to San Antonio, TX where she would graduate as part of the class of 1966 from her beloved alma mater, Robert E. Lee high school. During her years at Lee, she made many lifelong friends that would be a big part of her life until the very end. A special thank you for their support and friendship to the "Ladies of Lee".
After high school, Gloria worked in various capacities at USAA. Later in life, she would proudly earn a bachelor's degree from St. Mary's University. She would go on to work in accounting and bookkeeping in several industries, ultimately retiring from Big State Produce in 2018.
Gloria would meet and eventually marry Roberto Valdez on December 23, 1967. They were blessed with two daughters, Patricia Grace in 1969 and Theresa Ann in 1972. During their life together they spent time living in Germany where Roberto was stationed with the United States Army and where Theresa was born. Widowed in 1975, Gloria raised her two daughters with the help of her family always close by and available.
An avid Spurs and Cowboys fan, Gloria loved following her favorite teams especially during the glory years for both. The television would often be found on a channel with a game at her home. Sports were important, but Gloria truly loved music and especially loved watching her daughters and grandsons perform in marching bands at Lee, Brandeis and Churchill high schools. She attended many football games and marching band competitions and had a vast collection of t-shirts and other memorabilia from those happy times. She was equally proud to watch her only granddaughter, Marisa, perform in various productions while at NESA, a magnet school on the Lee campus. Gloria was an avid reader as evidenced by the large book collection at her home and the trait which has followed to several of her grandchildren.
Gloria was preceded in death by her husband Roberto Valdez, daughter Theresa Barrera, mother Aurora Rodriguez, and step father Reuben Rodriguez. She is survived by her daughter Patricia Greenwell and son-in-law Jeff Greenwell; sister Elizabeth Martinez; grandchildren: Jacob Greenwell, Nathan Greenwell, Marisa Barrera, Garrett Greenwell, Tomas Barrera and Andres Barrera. She is also survived by niece Katherine Martinez Castillo and family ; son-in-law Robert Barrera, wife Jeannie and grandson Mateo as well as numerous aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, and many close friends near and far.
A thank you to Vitas Hospice for their compassionate care in the last months of Gloria's life and a special thank you to cousin Norma Amaya-Chavez for her help and support.
