Gloria Ellen Robles entered into eternal rest with the Lord on September 27th.
Born between her older sister, Estefana and baby brother Zaragoza, Gloria was a proud graduate of Fox Tech High School, Class of 1952, with a bright future and endless opportunities ahead. True to her independent spirit, Gloria did things her own way.
After graduation, Gloria pursued her dream of becoming a registered nurse, graduating from the Baptist Memorial Hospital School of Nursing with the Class of 1955. As fate would have it, she soon made her way across the country to San Francisco, where she worked at University of California Hospital.
When Pan Am began recruiting flight attendants with professional degrees, Gloria answered the call and embarked on a career that would take her to Miami, New York, and eventually back to San Francisco, her favorite destination. Her career in the airline industry began with Pan Am in 1960 and continued with United Airlines until her retirement in 1996. Along the way, Gloria lived a remarkable and adventurous life.
She skied in Lake Tahoe, ran the Bay to Breakers every year, traveled the world with friends and family, and embraced every opportunity to experience life. Gloria had a gift for making and keeping lifelong friendships. Her circle included friends from Pan Am and United Airlines, Fox Tech, BMH nursing school, Holy Spirit Catholic Church, and the Holy Spirit Altar Society.
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, Zaragoza and Bertha Robles; her sister, Estefana Garza, and her husband, Sam Garza; and her brother, Zaragoza Robles Jr., and his wife, Elia Robles.
She is survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, all of whom will carry her memory in their hearts.
We will miss Gloria's outgoing spirit, adventurous nature, and raucous laugh. We take comfort knowing that she is once again reunited with her beloved parents, sister, brother, and their spouses, and that she is now at peace in the loving arms of the Lord.
